SHINING SHERIFF (IMP)
IMPORTED Palomino Stallion
Herda: N/N Born: 2004
SIRE: Shining Spark (USA)
DAM: Diamonds Sparkle (USA)
Shining Sheriff was retained by Carol Rose as a possible replacement prospect for the aging Shining Spark. Carol says that Sheriff is a spitting image of Shining Spark, and in her opinion, would undoubtabley be the best bred Working Cowhorse stallion ever imported to Australia.
Shining Sheriff* was started in Texas for Working Cowhorse events, and finalled in his first minor competition there, just a few weeks before his trip to Australia. After a few years of solid enquiry to purchase a Shining Spark son, Rhondhu Stud was finally able to secure Shining Sheriff*. He was the first ever son of Shining Spark to be imported to Australia, and with a hybrid outcross pedigree second to none, he has a huge future here in the breeding of horses for Stockmans Challenges and Campdrafting. Sheriff also meets the iconic Australian requirements of Versatility, as he and his genetics will also suit many other Cattle Working events, Performance events, Western and English events, Halter and Rodeo. As Carol Rose does not supply semen in Shining Spark, then availablility of this unique bloodline to Australians, will be limited to live imports only.
In the 2008, Cloncurry Stockmans Challenge, Sheriff finalled, placing 9th overall. With only 2 months training with Liz in Australia (where some horses were started for the event 12 months beforehand!), during a period where he was still acclimatising to the country, we were extremely happy with the effort that Sheriff exerted.
In 2009, Sheriff has raised the bar again, receiving a 91.25 in the dry work section of the Cloncurry Stockman's Challenge. In 7 campdraft runs, Sheriff has not scored a cut-out lower than a 22! He consistently scored 83s and 85s in his runs at Mount Isa, Camooweal, Cloncurry and Burke and Wills. Sheriff also won the dry work in the Burke and Wills challenge, placed 3rd in the wet work of the Burke and Wills challenge and won the overall Challenge as well.
We are now seeing the first of the Shining Sheriff foals, which have surpassed all expectations. They are awesome types, with beautiful front ends, perfect legs and huge hips. The first 10 foals born consisted of 7 filles and 3 colts, and only 2 chestnuts. Their temperment and personality is unreal, they are true people horses, they crave human company and have trainable, pleasant minds.
Hopefully, 2010 will see Rhondhu Stud and Shining Sheriff find the time in their busy lifestyle to attend some more competitions.
