We work and train our 2 & 3 year olds in intervals, and from a paddock situation as much as possible. We like to expose them to light mustering, weaner tailing, and fence checking, working them until they are thinking and tired, but spelling them before they are sour and numb. This trend usually continues until they are getting solid enough to compete, which varies from 4 years to 6 years, depending on each horse.
Working them from a paddock unfortunately means that they are not sleek and shiney, but they also have no feed problems to train out, every ride means something to them from a paddock.
If any are destined to be ridden in aged events like Challenges, Cutting & Reining, then they will get worked and trained on feed, and very often stabled. We often use a mixture of home work and professional trainers, especially if they are destined to compete.
We generally price our horses as foals, with a tag that won't change until they're broken-in. We try and price all Geldings, Colts and lesser quality Mares to sell before breaking, otherwise our investment from then on makes them unaffordable to buy . Therefore most of the horses that make it to a ridden status at Rhondhu Stud are the choice end of the good Mares and Colts, and due to the time and money that we then inject into them, it is only to be expected that their prices will be considerably dearer.
Do contact us if any of our Young Prospects interest you, as very often they are not listed in our For Sale section, but that does not mean they are not for sale.
In the pedigrees, any underlined names or numbers will give you a direct link to that horse on their Society Website.
