Most of these mares are used for ourselves and our staff to ride mustering cattle. In this day and age, you need quiet, handy, reliable horses for staff, and we find that our own bred mares are exceptional workers.
Some of these mares we wish to keep for future Broodmares, and since we cannot physically train & compete them all, we simply work them until they are 5-6 y.o. and then they enter the Broodmare band.
The solid work always pays off with the end result being a mature, respectful, no hassles breeder for the rest of her life.
There are very often some absolutely brilliant work horses, who just do not gain any recognition or credability due to their 'insufficient' pefigree. Well we are quick to identify these Mares, and the vigour that they can introduce into a breeding program, regardless of their pedigree.
We believe that the horse industry of the future needs to be reminded that a good horse is just that, and before there was ever competitions, there was just work, and if they can't do a good days work, then how can they stand up and compete and breed for our future?
