The future of any Stud most often relies on the past history of it's previous Stallions and Broodmares. Some of our Stallions of The Past have been sold on to provide them with a better home in their latter years, and some are unfortunately deceased.
Our deceased Stallions have all had a huge impact within our stud, and have all left us with a huge deficit in our lives without them. In particular, the loss of Docs Crackin Oak was almost enough for us to near give it all away, but we had some very strong industry support, and many more doors have opened since then.
Some may think it cold of us to sell on grand old stallions like Outback Roc and Oaks Reality, but we think it's the kindest thing we've ever decided to do. We are away from home for up to 8 months of the year Contract Mustering; when any horse gets older, they need constant surveillance, and couldn't offer that to these Stallions. We have sold them to brilliant homes, where they will live out the rest of their lives in pampered luxury, and we wish their owners all the best with them. We have retained semen in them all for our own use.
Other Stallions we sell just simply because our stud is expanding, and with the importing of Shining Sheriff*, we would have to own a phenonomel number of Broodmares to warrant owning so many Stallions! It has been quite sad to pass on these good stallions, and we are privelidged to still have semen in them all, as they too will become a part of the foundation stock at Rhondhu Stud.
We will import another Stallion in time to come, and we are also retaining 2 outstanding colts by Bobs Hickory Rio(USA) and Blue Duck Okie (USA) for the time being.
There may be another 1 or 2 of our existing Stallions that could be sold in the near future, but again that is not due to any fault of their own. It will allow us to focus on our retained Stallions, and also the time maybe to ride some of the awesome Fillies that we are now breeding. Stallions take a lot of time and effort, and should any of ours be coming up for sale, they will be genuinely good Stallions, and they will be advertised within this website.
