Mare power is the real asset of any stud. We have an outstanding herd of very well bred mares, most of whom have been performed or worked. For those who have not for some reason, they will have siblings and/or progeny who have assisted them in holding their status within the Stud.
We primarily breed for Stockmans Challenges, Campdrafting, Cutting and Reining, however there are many mares in the Stud who produce excellent progeny for many other sports, like Halter, English, Western, Pony Club, Rodeo etc..
We breed our Mares to suit our seasons, not tradition. Our program basically means, breed December to February; foal out November to January; wean Jul and August. The natural benefits are huge.
The Weanlings are often heading out as the Broodmares are coming in. The pregnant Mares are foaling closer to or just after some rain; feed prices are starting to drop usually due to rain; all Mares have shed their winter coat; most mares are cycling normally; most mares are usually on a rising plane of nutrition; stallions have more libido and very often higher sperm mobility; if using semen, it is more readily available; the Vets are not as busy; mares being used for Embryo Transfers are also in line, and this all contributes to quicker pregnancies and higher pregnancy retention rates.
Some will argue that there are 2 major inconveniences - it can be quite hot at foaling time, and for aged event enthusiasts, the foals are 2-3 months behind. However, we believe that you can most times stable a weaker foal in the hot weather for a few days, and if you program your training correctly with an honest trainer, the 2-3 months will be caught up in no time. For us anyway, the benefits far outweigh the inconveniences.
For the discerning breeder, we will now offer any of our mares, both in the Broodmares and Competition Mares sections, for Embryo Transfer services, using our own and/or outside Stallions. We are also happy to 'Client Join' our mares. So you can choose near any Broodmare to join to any Stallion, in the request for that foal. Our contract for this can even be tailored to include a pre-set price for colour and sex of the resultant foal. Contact us for further details on these services if required.
